Operations Science in Aviation Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul

Margaret Amalfitano is the Manager of Safety, Quality, and Continuous Improvement (SQCI) at Delta TechOps, where she coordinates and directs engine and component maintenance activities to meet customer and regulatory requirements. Her team leads process improvement initiatives across all production, engineering, and service delivery areas, with a focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of operations. In late 2022, she was asked to build Delta TechOps’ in-house operations science program — developing and delivering training in operations science fundamentals to production supervisors, support staff, and management across the organization.

Margaret brings more than 30 years of aviation industry experience to her role. She began her career as an engineer at Grumman Aerospace (now Northrop Grumman), where her work included system design on experimental and classified aircraft in the advanced aeronautics division. After earning her MBA, she transitioned into the airline industry with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve operations, drive business growth, and achieve gains in productivity and cost efficiency. Educated in Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints, she has been with Delta for a decade and is recognized as one of the key leaders behind Delta TechOps’ successful adoption of operations science.
